Abstract
In this paper we shall try to discuss through four chapters the importance of using the media and more recent means of communication in catechesis and education of young people, having two goals in mind. The first goal tries to present in which way the catechetical and new evangelization message of the Church can become more acceptable and understandable to young people through the new means of communication; the other goal points to the importance of young people’s education and adoption of ethical principles of communication so that they can become the carriers of the new evangelization message. In the first part of the paper we shall briefly refer to the Church’s attitude towards the means of social ommunication
and positive changes that have occurred especially after the Second Vatican Council. In the second part we are trying to show what the “modern mosaic of the Catholic Church’s face” pictured through dialogue and the Church’s communication with the world, is like. The third part deals with the possibilities of two-way communication between the Church and the young, which happens in the way that the source of information (the Church) sends a message to the recipient (the young) and codes it through transmitters (means of communication) to finally obtain a return decoded message (the feedback of the young) that returns to the source of information (the Church). It is a two-way communication in which the young, decoding the message and sending return information, communicate with the Church. In this way young people are not just passive recipients but active participants in communication. Therefore, in the fourth part of the paper we are talking about the importance and necessity of educating young people for the ethics of communication so that they can become evangelizers themselves in the world of new technologies and in the so called new “digital continent” where young people are more “natives” than “newcomers”.
