Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. In the Republic of Croatia alone, over 2,500 women are diagonsed with breast cancer annually. The most important risk factors are age and family history. Insufficient physical activity is most likely a risk factor in postmenopausal women and one of the few known risk factors that can be prevented. Guidelines on aerobic physical activity in prevention of breast cancer include at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of high intensity physical activity per week. The impact of physical activity on breast cancer is also suggested by the fact that post treatment women with very low levels of physical activity have an increased risk of mortality compared to women with a high level of physical activity.
