Abstract

Keywords

On the basis of evidence he presents; the author finds that a bronze lepton of the simpulum type; coined in 29/30 by Pontius Pilatus; had undoubtedly been placed on the left eyelid of the Crucified Man shown on the Shroud of Turin. Earlier researchers wrongly concluded that this coin had been a lituus. Since a simpulum type coin had been placed on the right eyelid of the Man; we may conclude that only Pilatus’s bronze leptons of the simpulum type have been identified on the eyelids of the Man on the Shroud of Turin
