Lifelong professional guidance as a employability function in modern society

Abstract
The work analyzes the meaning of notion professional lifelong guidance, meaning the range of activities which can at any given moment of each person's life enable them to recognize their competences, abilities and interests in order to make significant decisions in terms of education, qualification and occupation. The paper analyzes the tasks of professional guidance in modern society - the 'society of knowledge'. The tasks are based on the self-actualization of each individual, development of the possibilities for the autonomy, development of competencies and employability development. It points out that the professional guidance is a process and not a oneshot activity, which collects information about the possibilities of education and employment, it helps person to consider their own options and make decisions about the most suitable education choice and employment. The conclusion is that the professional guidance services are of great significance for such a process, those services are based on the complete and attentive evaluationof different factors, first of all: the needs of labour market, and the users' potentials but also the needs and potentials of education institutions.
