Abstract
In this study, attention was directed toward family life and modes of behavior and conduct ofparents in relation to their adolescents. The aim of the study was to determine how adolescentsperceive the dimensions of parental behavior and which differences exist between them. Thedimensions of parental behavior were determined as acceptance and rejection especially bymother and by father. We wanted to know which differences exist with regard to gender, size ofplace of residence, type of school that students attended, family structure, number of children inthe family, education and employment status of parents and family SES. The study was conductedon a sample of 862 students of upper secondary school in the two counties. The results showedthat the hypothesis is partially confirmed and the difference is shown in comparison to four of thestudied variables. It was found that girls experience significantly greater acceptance by mothersthan boys, while boys perceive greater acceptance by their fathers. The rejection by the motheris greater in rural areas that have more people and less in smaller towns. Significantly greateracceptance by the father experienced adolescents who live with both biological parents andadolescents who live with both biological parents and the extended family, than adolescents wholive with a single parent or a single parent and stepfather or stepmother. Adolescents who live infamilies with below-average SES perceive fewer acceptances and more rejection by the motherthen those adolescents who live in families with average and above-average SES. In relation tothe father obtained similar results and adolescents from families with below-average SES perceivefewer acceptances and more rejection by his father.
