Abstract

The skin around chronic wounds needs to be protected. Incontinence, stomatal or fistulous discharge, transpiration and removal of adhesive medical devices are the most frequent causes of skin damage. The products used for skin protection are mostly available as semi-solid preparations (in form of paste or cream), lately also in form of liquid polymers. Up to now, known liquid protective polymers have not been used widely due to their alcohol content, producing a cytotoxic effect on the damaged skin and causing a lot of pain. 3M™ Cavilion™ protective film is a new polymer solution for the protection of endangered skin, which does not cause burning sensations. Its use is simple and economically justified, it preserves the adhesiveness of medical devices, does not affect dipper absorption capacity and at the same time protects the skin from mechanical damage due to the removal of adhesive devices.
