Abstract

The paper is a review of the patients with confirmed Morel-Lavallee lesions, admitted to the Traumatology Department of the "Dubrava" Clinical Hospital in the period from January 1995 to August, 1998. The main point of the research was directed to the casuistic where the diagnosis was overlooked at the initial examinations, or the problem was not recognized. The results point to the failure of the out-patient treatment, prolonged interval between injury< and the proper surgical treatment, unpurposeful use of antibiotics, unacceotable total morbidity of 43.1 days (19-75) and finally, the unfavourable cost-benefit ratio. In conclusion, in order to improve overall results, an early diagnosis, hospitalisation and an active surgical approach are suggested. Relative to the average age of the patients (60.3 years) (46-77) vascular vulnerability in the advanced age has been postulated as a potential risk factor.
