Abstract

Symptomatic presentation of Meckel's diverticulum occurs in 4-30% of patients under 2 years of age and in 10% of cases where the patients are older than 8. Diagnostic Technetium-99m-Pertechnetate scintigraphy is the standard test for making this diagnosis. However, the sensitivity of the scan is only 62% in adult population. Although the Technetium Pertechnetate scan is falsely negative in this case report (and in a number of other cases) there are ways to increase its sensitivity and possibly avoid repeated testing.
