Abstract

Prostate carcinoma is a frequent type of carcinoma in elderly men. It increases with age and is connected to wide geographic variations, due to influence ot different risk factors. Even if age-specific increase seems stable, prostate carcinoma problem increases in total number simply because of the population aging. Increased number of patients with prostate cancer, discovered by screening with prostate specific antigen and digitorectal examination, and who need treatment, will bear important consequences, not only financial ones connected to treatment supplies, but also in the increasing number of deaths caused by that illness. Due to all that prostate cancer has become a major public health problem, which demands multidisciplinary approach in solving the most frequent doubts regarding prevention, etiology, diagnosis and treatment.
