Abstract

Urinary stone formation can be simplified to precipitation of its principle components from complex solution. This approach enables elucidation of urinary stone formation mechanisms by applying physico-chemical principles of nucleation and crystal growth in investigating model systems of urinary stones formation. In this paper an overview of investigation ot precipitation in simple and complex model systems containing calcium phosphates, calcium oxalates, urates or their mixtures conducted in our group in past forty years has been given, as well as preliminary results ot investigations of calcium oxalate precipitation in artificial urine.
