Abstract

Scale insects belonging to the genus Coccus Linnaeus, 1758 are alien for Europe. Two species are currently present in Croatia: Coccus pseudomagnoliarum (Kuwana, 1914) (grey citrus scale) and Coccus hesperidum Linnaeus, 1758 (brown soft scale). C. pseudomagnoliarum is widespread on citrus plants within the majority of Croatian coastal area and it is an important economic pest on citrus plants. Feeding of C. pseudomagnoliarum on its host plants causes their gradual decline. Indirect damages are caused by abundant excretion of honeydew and subsequent occurrence of sooty mould, especially on fruits.
