Abstract
During 1992 and 1993, 1221 male and female patients were treated stationary at the Neurology Department of Osijek Clinical Hospital. Out of them, as many as 864 (70.8%) were treated for cerebrovascular accident. Beside the ischaemic cerebrovascular accident, 150 patients suffered from coronary disease. We found a correlation between the duration of coronary disorders (in years) and the incidence of cerebrovascular accident. The patients were divided into two groups:
- patients suffering from "functional" coronary disorders and
- patients suffering from "morphological" coronary disorders.
The first group consisted of patients with one of the following disorders: angina pain syndrome, atrial and/or ventricular fibrilation, SV and V extrasystole, conduction block or disturbed repolarization. In the other group there were patients with registered acute myocardial infarction, subacute infarction or chronic consequences of a previous myocardial infarction. According to the duration, the patients in both groups were divided into those suffering from the disorders for 1-5 years, 6-10 years, and over 10 years respectively.
