Proposition of an Alternative Approach to Method Factor Analysis: Exemplary Evaluation of Five Factor Self-Regulation Motivation Scale
Daniel JURIĆ
Abstract
When Campbell and Fiske (1959) proposed their first multitrait-
-multimethod analysis (MTMM) of research data, they evoked in
psychometric community some serious interest for analysis of
those parts of variance which could be attributed to different
methodological approaches. Later on, several different
confirmatory approaches of method effects analysis were
developed based on balanced designs. This paper presents an
attempt of parameterization for alternative estimation of method
factors using unbalanced designs. The goal of such analysis,
which combines confirmatory and exploratory approach, is to
determine those elements of variance which can be attributed to
method artifact which is determined by task or stimuli content,
even if multimethod approach is not planned in advance. The
proposed approach also implies an alternative view of internal
consistency and reliability, based on the idea of pure trait factors.
Suggested models are demonstrated by evaluating psychometric
properties of five factor self-regulation motivation scale.
