Abstract

Using the tyndallometric technique, the precipitation of zirconium(
IV) from aqueous solution of zirconyl chloride (1 mM) was
investigated, in the presence of dicarboxylic acids: malonic, succinic
and adipic, at pH 2-10 and 298 K. In the precipitation diagram
only one region at pH < 2 exists in which zirconium is water-
soluble with these acids. Polymeric, insoluble compounds of the
composition Zr(OH)3HA (A = malonate, succinate, adipate ligands)
were isolated at 2 < pH< 3. At pH> 3 continuous increase of
zirconium percentage in precipitate with pH increasing was observed
in all samples, due to zirconium hydroxide coprecipitation
