Abstract
This research includes the informations, interest,
opinions, attitudes and suggestions about infrared
photography tested on 72 subjects comprising
experts in painting, art history, conservation
and restoration, and curators. For that purpose,
a questionnaire was created to determine the
frequency of using infrared (IR) photography
in near IR spectra (IR reflectography) before
the conservation and restoration processes, the
possibility of using visible or invisible retouching,
familiarity with the technique of double painting
in the same layer [1] and the application of the
current technologies in modern day painting, and
restoration and conservation.
Hypotheses have been confirmed that IR
photography represents a new challenge in
contemporary painting, and that there is a
significant interest in the information about this
area of research which contributes to the discovery
of forgeries and false attributes given to art
works. Hidden messages in art paintings visible
in the near infrared spectra provide additional
value. Higher degree of information, a wider
use, interdisciplinary work as well as continuous
development of this method are suggested.
