Abstract

Seventy-six patients with contracture and primary sclerosis of the vesical neck were analyzed after transurethral resection of the prostate. The number of patients mode 2.63% of 2889 patients operated on at our Department of Urology in the 1981- 1990 period. Sixty percent of these patients were treated by cold knife incision and 40% by transurethral resection. Postoperative contracture of the vesical neck was found to be more frequent in cases of small prostate adenoma and primary sclerosis of the vesical neck, which appears to be more extensively traumatized in these conditions. The occurrence of complications pointed to a conclusion that transurethral resection of small prostatic adenoma and primary sclerosis of the vesical neck might not be the method of choice in such situations.
