Abstract

Surgical practice is subject to constant change, in order to find better, safer and more efficient curring. In contrary, the methods of scientific exploration in surgery — based on »rerum cognoscere causas« idea — remain unchanged. Scientific truth seems firm and stable. However, surgical practice and scientific research are closely interwoven. It is the research itself that enables a permanent evolution of the surgical practice: viewed, of course, as the incessant improvement in the patient’s best favour. It is obvious that every supreme achievement in the surgical practice represent a mixture of scientific research and its use in daily practice. Also, it needs to be emphasized that surgical accomplishments are not mere results »surgical explorations«; they are deeply rooted in the fundamental research practice. That is the reason why the scientific achievement in surgery has to be understood as an intelligent and efficient application of the fundamental research.
