Abstract

The lipoprotein status and the secretion dynamics of insulin and C-peptide were examined in 43 patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Of them, 27 were obese and 16 of normal weight. Obese patients had significantly higher values of cholesterol and trigliceride and significantly lower HDL2. The differences in LDL, HDL and HDL3 concentrations were not significant. Also, in the same group, the increase in C-peptide concentrations was significant, whereas with both basal and stimulated insulin it was not. The obtained scores indicate the increased atherogenic risk in obese patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes, as opposed to the patients of normal body weight.
