Abstract

In 193 normocalcemic stone-formers from the district of north eastern Slavonia and Barania the main metabolic disorders were identified and the rate of occurrence was determined. The patients were studied using two-hour urine samples collected in the morning after 15 hours of fasting and 24-hour urine samples taken from subjects on usual diet. Hypercalciuria was found in 65 subjects (33 %). By Berlin’s criteria 34 patients (52.3 %) were identified as hyperabsorbers. Elementary physiological variables, such as the mean 24-hour urine volume and creatinine clearence were significantly different among particular subgroups of stone-formers. The results of the study showed absorptive hypercalciuria to be the most common metabolic disorder among stone-formers in Yugoslav population as the whole.
