Abstract

In this paper the data on the clinical features and diagnostic possibilities of early and latent phases of endemic (Balkan) nephropathy are briefly presented. The opinion is expressed that in the three countries (Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Romania) the clinical features of endemic nephropathy are essentially the same with only smaller differences. The diagnostics of early and latent phases of the disease based upon the determination of the type of proteinuria, excretion of Tamm-Horsfall protein and enzymuria are presented predominantly according to the own results of investigation. Those results, in the same time, open some new aspects of the natural history of Balkan endemic nephropathy.
