Abstract

The prospecitve semiquantitative analysis of beta-hemolytic streptococci serogroups A, B, C and G isolated from the throat swabs of in- and outpatients at the University Hospital of Infectious Diseases »Dr Fran Mihaljević« was carried out over a six year period (1982 1987). Significant differences in proportions of separate serogroups of BHS within particular semiquantitative gradation were established. BHS-A was more frequently isolated in more than 50 colonies or in the pure culture (83%), than BHS of other serogroups (p<0.01). In 56%. of the throat swabs where BHS-B was revealed there were less than 50 colonies and only 12# /o of the swabs revealed BHS-B in pure culture. Over one half of BHS-C and BHS-G strains (59% and 56%, respectively) were isolated in more than 50 colonies but still the proportion was significantly lower the respecitve one in BHS-A strains (P<0.01).
