Abstract

In this study the level of magnesium (Mg) in the serum (S) and in the erythrocytes (E) of the control group (KG) (MgS = 0.85 ± 0.01; MgE = 2.16 + 0.03 mmol/L) and of the patients suffering from non-regulated diabetes (NED) (MgS = 0.76 + 0.03; MgE = = 1.92 + 0.03 mmol/L) has been measured. The level of magnesium in serum and in erythrocytes is significantly lower in non-regulated diabetes than in the control group (p < 0.001). Extremely low values of magnesium have been found in the serum and in the erythrocytes of the patients with non-regulated diabetes, particularly in the subgroup with ketonuria (NED + K) (MgS = 0.69 + 0.04; MgE = = 1.58 + 0.06 mmol/L; p < 0.001).
