Abstract

We were engaged in the prospective observation of more seious side-effects with hospitalized patients caused by using medicaments in a course of a year. It was observed to what a degree side-effects were represented in different age and sex groups, which drugs caused more serious side-effects most often, to what a degree the number of medicaments taken during one hospitalization influenced the appearance of side-effects. The theoretical approach to side-effects was analysed, as well as the share which a cide-effect had in the development of complications of an illness, on prolonging the sojourn in hospital and, according to that, in the increase of hospitalization expenses; and finally, in the lethal result. In has been found that side-effects of drugs appear often, more often in female population, older
age groups. They complicate the therapy, increase the cost of treatment and contribute to the lethal end.
