Abstract

This paper deals primarily with contemporary methods of choice in improving the treatment of breast carcinoma in our country; it is exclusively connected with as many possibilities of diagnosing the socalled »minimal cancer« stages by applying the systematic medical checkups. In our Medical Centre the systematic medical checkup consists of physical inspection, mamography and cytology, while galactography is applied in the cases of bleeding breasts. The difficulties and disadvantages of such actions connected with an inadequate response have been pointed out. The most precise diagnostic method so far for us is mamography, the method of choice, while all the other methods present more or less false positive or false negative results (13—30%). Comparing the results of some of systematic chekups in our country, it is significant to find a very low index of early stages, the socalled »minimal cancer«. The need of stressing the importance of general practicioner’s surgery as a basic unit for an early detection of cancer has been pointed out.
