Abstract

The problems of incidence, mechanism of genesis, diagnosis and treatment of exceptionally rare fractures of sternum had been discussed, and our own patients in the period between 1972—1985 analysed. With some of the patients there was an indication for an active surgical treatment. The cases of four patients, whose fractures were treated by application of osteosynthesis, Müllers plate and srews are presented. This surgical application is easy, reposition by use of onetoothed hook is always succesful, and there are no problems in fixing of the plate or screws. No complications of any kind were noticed. After a short postoperative course (7—9 days) the patients were released for an ambulance treatment and soon they were capable to reassume their work, what was not the case where the conservative treatment was applied.
