Abstract

The concentrations of lipoproteins were measured in 26 diabetic patients in the state of poor metabolic control of diabetes and dependent after establishing a good metabolic control. Sixteen patients had insulin and ten insulin non-dependent diabetes mellitus. In patients with insulin dependent diabetes there was a rise in the concentration of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) (p<0,02) and a fall in the concentration of total cholesterol (p<0,01) and triglycerides (p<0,05) after establishing a good metabolic control. In the concentration of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL) we did not get a significant difference between the two states of control. In patients with insulin non-dependent diabetes after establishing a good metabolic control by inducing insulin into the therapy we only had a fall in the concentration of total cholesterol (p 0,02) while in the concentrations of other lipoproteins we did not get significant differences.
