Abstract

The presurgical treatment of the cheilognathopalatoschisis consists of the orthodontic preparation of the babies. The aim of the preparation is the correction of the disslocated maxillary segments to the normal alveolar arches with the cleft reduction between segments. The segments are gradually replaced to their normal positions by McNeil’s method with reconstruction at plaster models. With the author’s own modification of the exterior part of the retention plate the description of the procedure for the plate work-out is given. The lack of understanding from the parents’ side presents a particular problem in the efficient preoperative treatment of the cheilognathopalatoschisis, It is because they only wish the mouth cleft closed and are not able to realize the consequences accompanying the growth of teeth and the occlussion development.
