Abstract

Obesity is a public health problem of epidemic proportions. There is also increasing incidence of musculoskeletal disorders due to the aging of the population and the sedentary lifestyle. Increasing clinical and scientific evidence highlights the correlation between obesity and musculoskeletal disorders, which gives rise to significant disability and impairment of the patient's quality of life. Existing evidence largely emphasises the correlation of obesity and osteoarthritis (OA), but there is also increasing evidence of the association between obesity and inflammatory rheumatic diseases, primarily rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). From the clinical point of view it is important to understand the effect that weight loss has on the treatment outcomes in patients with musculoskeletal disorders.
