The Latest Knowledge About the Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Stroke in the Elderly

Abstract
Stroke is a major public-health problem
worldwide. As the population grows older, the number of
strokes will increase. Prevention is still the best approach
to stroke. Prevention programmes reduce the incidence of
stroke. Diagnostic evaluation that requires brain imaging is
essential for adequate therapy. A considerable progress has
been made over the last few years in the prevention, diagnosis
and treatment of acute stroke. Stroke is an emergency requiring
treatment in specialized stroke units that signifi cantly decrease
mortality and disability.
