Abstract

Elderly people are a special category of
insurants in the Republic of Croatia. In addition to rights
exercised by all other insurants, they are also entitled to some
specifi c rights within the health care system. In this article, the
authors discuss the health care of the elderly and their rights
regarding health insurance. They provide a short overview
of the organisation of health care provision to the elderly,
with a special comment on elderly insurants as patients of
a primary care doctor of their choice. They also discuss the
legal classifi cation of the relationship between a doctor and
a geriatric patient as a relationship between a health care
provider and a health care user, as well as rights and obligations
arising from this relationship.
