Abstract

Large body of theatre research shows that until recently many theatre and performance genres were not deemed worthy of scholarly attention, and that many theatre histories privileged the high culture and literary based theatre while dismissing numerous genres of popular theatre. As a result, vast and diverse area of popular theatre has been understudied and omitted from the official world and national theatre histories. The paper therefore considers some of the models and mechanisms of Croatian theatre histories and examines the way that popular theatre is presented in Croatian theatre historiography.
