Abstract

A signifi cant progress in the treatment of
sexually transmitted diseases has been achieved on the
global level due to the clinical use of azithromycin. After
more than 15 years of its clinical use, it has become evident
that there are some indications of sexually transmitted
diseases where a single 1.0 g azithromycin dose is
insuffi cient and that the total azithromycin dose should be
increased from 3 g to 4.5 g and treatment extended to 3 to
4 weeks. Based on their own research results and literature
data, the authors provide recommendations for the use of
azithromycin in various sexually transmitted diseases.
