Abstract

Human resources are seen as an important aspect of the development of organizations, but
they are not sufficiently explored within the third sector in Croatia. Based on the results of
empirical qualitative research, the main goal of this paper is to show what kind of impact
third sector stakeholders and processes in Croatia have on human resources in it. We have
analyzed the motivation for working in the third sector, the importance of human resources
in the sector, their role and the impact that work in the sector has on them. At the level of
motivation for the engagement in the third sector, the results suggest that the most common
reason is altruism. The third sector human resources have greater opportunities to learn and
strengthen their knowledge and have developed flexibility through project work. Some of
the negative effects of the work in the sector are related to constant job insecurity and certain
working conditions. Volunteering is not yet sufficiently valued in society. The results are
discussed in the light of current trends in the development of the Croatian third sector and
recent changes in the labour market.
