Life-style and Health
Jadranka Mustajbegović
Abstract
The life-style is a general way of living based
on the interplay between living conditions and individual patterns
of behavior. Injury and chronic diseases associated with
life-style tends to become more common. This leads to the
emergence of non-communicable chronic diseases as major
threats to public health: cardiovascular and cerebrovascular
diseases, pulmonary diseases, liver diseases, cancer, diabetes,
osteoporosis. In every country, depending on the stage
of development, non-communicable chronic diseases are
rapidly increasing or are already established at high levels. If
populations develop more rapidly, they need educational programmes
for noncommunicable chronic disease risk-factor
reduction such as smoking, alcohol use, lack of physical activity,
fat/salt diet etc. Diseases with common risk factors
require common preventive strategies.
