INTRADIALECTAL INTERPENETRATION IN ČAKAVIAN- KAJKAVIAN IKAVIAN-EKAVIAN LOCAL IDIOMS

Abstract
The author refers to most Croatian local idioms in the area from Zagorje near Ogulin, through Karlovac and Zumberak to Otok near Bregana as intradialectal because they share a certain number of common linguistic features, such as kaj, the akavian reflex of semivowels, the Ikavian-Ekavian reflections of yat according to Jakubinski’s rule, the distinction between c and c, the protetic v in front of u, the o > u substitution in words such as un, unda, tuliko, kuliko and elsewhere, and considerable lexical correspondences. Another reason why many characteristics belong to Cakavian and Kajkavian dialects lies in the fact that several dialects are spoken in the area: Cakavian in the west, Kajkavian in the east and partly in the west, Stokavian in the south, while Slovenian dialects are spoken in the north.
