Abstract

paper describes the current state of the
surface mount technology (for producing electronic
circuits in which the components are mounted
or placed directly onto the surface of printed
circuit boards) in the former Yugoslavia region. A
survey was conducted on companies in the region
that use automatic and semi-automatic machines
for placing SMD components onto a printed circuit
board. The obtained results were analyzed.
Good practices of attracting foreign investors
are shown and compared with bad examples. It
is shown that Slovenia is the regional leader of
electronic production. Croatia, as it is located in
the EU and is well positioned, should look upon
Slovenia and systematically encourage electronics
production. On the other hand, Serbia and Macedonia,
which are not in the EU, are turning to the
production and attracting foreign investors by various
state incentives because of the shortage of
their own capital. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro
and Kosovo have a very high degree of
unsteadiness and are currently not working significantly
on encouraging electronics production.
