Treatment of Skin Bacterial and Soft Tissue Infections with Antibiotics
Franjo Gruber
Marija Kaštelan
Abstract
The authors decribe, in brief, the physiologic
skin flora and the most common pathogens causing skin and
soft tissue bacterial infections. Pyodermias are the most frequent
skin bacterial infections, caused by gram positive cocci,
i.e. staphylococcus aureus and pyogenic streptococcus. The
basic aspects of the classification of bacterial skin infections
are reported along with new guidelines on the topical and systemic
treatment with antibiotics. An overview of the problems
linked to the bacterial resistance to antibiotics and possibilities
to overcome is given as well.
