Abstract

This paper presents the results of a preliminary study aimed to gain insight into the frequency of presenting elderly people (65 years and older) in central news broadcast reports of HRT and RTL television networks. The study was conducted for 14 days in April 2017 and used TV reports (N = 367) in the studied sample. A quantitative analysis of the news content was conducted, and the obtained results were processed by descriptive statistics. According to the preliminary results of the study, elderly people are poorly represented, appearing in only 37 broadcast reports out of a total of 367 (10.08%).
