Abstract

Attention has been paid only to the basic grammatical properties of Croatian , that
isto the phonic (minus prosody). morphological and word-formation levels. without
any pretension to detail and exhaustiveness. To facilitate orientation. Croatian characteristics
are given in comparison with corresponding Serbian ones. The examples show
that many facts presented as „doublets·• in standard neo-shtokavian as an entity, are in
faci forms of either Croatian or Serbian. Or that. at besi. the same fact functions in one
of these two languages as a mere styleme.
