Abstract

In the paper the work of the Commission for complaints in the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Croatia is analyzed. The control over the work of the police is of outmost importance for citizens, but also for the police itself since only efficient and quality control can ensure the efficient and quality work of the police. In the paper it will be shown that there are more types of control over the work of police, but that
some are not efficient, other exist only on paper but do not operate in reality. Because of that, the work of the Commission for complaints in the Ministry of interior of the Republic of Croatia is of the outmost importance as it has been the only existent form of civil control over the work of police in practice. However, the amendments of the Police Act in 2015, which were inaugurated in order to improve the work of this Commission, have actually resulted in its factual disappearance, or its existence only on paper. In the paper the forming of this body, its work will be analyzed and recommendations for the improvement of its work will be given.
