Abstract

Geotechnical properties and bearing capacity of blast furnace slag are analysed in this study. CBR tests were performed using fine and coarse grained samples of blast furnace slag. The CBR test samples were prepared using standard and modified compaction energies. To examine the effect of pore fluid on bearing capacity, samples were prepared with tap and sea water. Test results show that fine grained samples have higher CBR values compared to coarse grained samples. Compaction energy exerted the greatest influence on CBR results and higher CBR values were obtained for samples prepared and cured with sea water.
