Abstract
Acetonitrile-2-(hydr ogen bromide, hydrogen chloride and hydrogen iodide)
were prepared first by A. Gautier 1 by saturating acetonitrile with hydrogen
halide. He concluded that the compounds contained only one molecule of
hydrogen halide. The chemical composition of the hydrogen bromide addition compound was subsequently determined by C . Engler2, who established by analysis the correct chemical formula as CH3 CN · 2 HBr.
