Abstract
The compounds mentioned in the title were prepared from
a.-phthalimido-~-methylmercaptopropiophenone (I). Reduction of
I with aluminium isopropoxide gave preferentially the threo carbinol
II which upon acetylation and subsequent nitration gave
a mixture of diastereomeric sulfoxides which were oxidized with
hydrogen peroxide to the identical sulfones.
