Abstract

In this brief review, we have made a cross section of the development of airway management in the last three decades. Diffi cult airway is the biggest problem that a doctor faces in clinical practice, and an unexpected diffi cult airway is considered the most critical event in the anesthesiologist’s life. Accessibility of the airway management trolley, along with video laryngoscope and fi berscope, has improved airway management in patients with unexpected diffi cult airway. Knowledge of the diffi cult airway management algorithm, techniques and available instruments used in the intubation process is necessary in everyday clinical practice to minimize the risk of unsuccessful intubation.
