Abstract

The Institute of Archaeology continued the conservation works on the masonry walls of the Vrbovec Castle in Klenovec Humski in 2017. The main approach was to fix and consolidate the preserved architectural remains of the castle, without any reconstruction or upgrading. However, some reconstruction work was inevitable, especially on the inner walls of the keep, on its very top. The original building technique was respected as much as possible.
All major masonry conservation work on the keep in this season is finalized, and the preparatory works for the drainage of rainwater from the top of the tower and from its interior have also been carried out. The inner part of the tower with preserved remains of the original flooring is planned to be conserved in the next season, so that the entire surface is going to be covered by the filling of sterile clay and sealed with a layer of flooring imitation.
