Pharmacoeconomics and its Importance in the Choice of Antidepressants
Vlado Jukić
Miroslav Herceg
Abstract
This Article shows the theoretical
approaches of a new interdiciplinary branch, i.e. pharmacoeconomics.
The development of pharmacoeconomics
results from the galloping increase in healthcare costs. The
two key components of pharmacoeconomic evaluation are
costs (price) and benefits. The basic methods of pharmacoeconomic
analysis are: Cost-Minimalisation Analysis
(CMA), Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA), Cost-Effectiveness
Analysis (CEA) and Cost-Utility Analysis (CUA). Until a few
years ago not many people were engaged in pharmacoeconomics.
The increase in drug prices, the reduction of
resources and the increased patient education increasingly
require the research in the field of pharmacoeconomics.
Keywords
pharmacoeconomics; antidepressants; costs; benefit
