Abstract

Since the foundation of the Archaeological Museum of Istria,
the importance of collecting documentation material has been
recognised. Alongside other secondary documentation materials,
the then Documentation Service (today’s Documentation
Department) also stored Museum’s publications and materials
printed for exhibitions. In 2002, the Regulations on the Content
and Management of Museum Material Documentation have
been adopted, and in 2003 inventory books for the holdings
of Exhibitions and Publishing Activities were introduced, into
which data was manually entered. Due to the continual reception
of documentation material and increasing number of users, and
coinciding with the ongoing development of information technology,
the desire for modernising data processing and management also
grew. Hence, in 2005, computer processing and management of
museum documentation has been introduced. Given that the
Archaeological Museum of Istria also organises numerous events,
a holding called Special Events was also established.
