Abstract

One of the most important characteristics of
the drug is drug safety. There is no absolute safety. The granting
of a product licence for a new drug merely means that no
hazards unacceptable to the licensing authority have been
identified. It does not ensure that a medicine will be safe in
subsequent prescribing practice. Assessment of the risk benefit
ratio through drug life cycle is primary task of pharmacovigilance.
This article is an review of basic terms, methods
and hystorical events on drug safety area and try to make
health profesionalls more aware about pharmacovigilance.
