Abstract

On the basis of studying archival material, press from that period and the literature, the author deals with the electoral terror on the territory of Croatia in the Monarchy of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in the period of parliamentary and regional elections. The electoral terror was carried out by the regime and proregime forces in an attempt to suppress Croatian political opposition, in the first place the strongest and best organized Croatian political organization - the Croatian (popular) (republican) Peasant Party. Terror was manifested in making impossible preelection agitation, various misuses of electoral and other laws, falsifying electoral results in favour of the government structures, persecutions, arrests, and even murders of electors and candidates of the opposition. It was one of the important elements of Karađorđević's system of repression against Croatian political opposition.
