Abstract

Continuous learning is the responsibility of every healthcare professional today, and e-learning in medicine and pharmacy represents its essential part. Pharmacovigilance is one of the topics we wanted to specifically address by conducting online courses for physicians and pharmacists through the PLIVAmed.net website. A total of 566 pharmacists and 1,034 physicians took the online course. Participants achieved excellent results: 95.1% of pharmacists and 96.8% of physicians successfully completed the course. Prior to taking the course, only 51.68% of the participants knew which document a physician should consult in order to find information on a medicinal product. After the participants completed the courses, they were asked to evaluate the usefulness, quality and level of difficulty of the course and whether the course encourages further learning. Evaluation scores were equally distributed across the same course as well as between the two courses. The average score for all parameters was 5.68 on a scale from 1 to 7. Pharmacovigilance plays an important role in ensuring patient safety. Therefore, any kind of professional training in this area brings us one step closer to achieving the final goal, which is ensuring that patients take an appropriate dose of an appropriate medicinal product in an appropriate manner. However, further research in this area is needed, and the first step would be to determine how the knowledge acquired through such online courses impacts the spontaneous reporting of adverse drug reactions by both physicians and pharmacists.
